When I started this blog in November of 2004, hardly anyone I knew had a blog. I usually had to explain what it was. I discovered blogs and blogging during the 2004 election. I had to pay for the service I used to blog. It was not alot around $50 per year. Since then, it seems that everyone has a blog. You can find blogs about any subject. The Old Schoolhouse magazine, for homeschoolers, offers blogs for free. Blogger.com offers blogs for free. Everyone can blog as long as they have access to a computer. There is even a blog for a homeless man who used the library to make his posts.
It is sorta like this, I have a favorite pair of clogs. They are called Crocs. They are not super expensive and I have enjoyed them for a while now. They are warm in the winter, cool in the summer. They don't require much in getting them on. They don't really go with anything but that is why I like them. I can wear them with shorts, pants, skirts, well, anything. Another thing I like about them is that not everyone has them. They are different and I have people ask about them. The cost around $30 so they are not out of everyone's budget. I saved so I could buy them. Here is the deal, yesterday I saw a knockoff of them at Walmart. The ones at Walmart looked like the original but the back strap did not move and the rubber felt well rubbery where my Crocs feel soft. The cost of them is around $10.
If someone wants to buy them at Walmart and wear them than that is great. They saved money, they have something similar to the original but it is not exactly the same. I grow weary of stores finding an idea and then copying it. I know it is the American way, there are not original ideas, yada, yada, yada. Or the argument, it is capitalism at its best. But wouldn't it be OK for once to not have Walmart copy my favorite shoes?
I think I may take a little break from blogging. Not forever just for a little while. Maybe like until Monday, then maybe I can get these darn Christmas decorations put up.
I don't know, I guess I liken blogs to typewriters or keyboards. It's just a tool for thoughts. Even though lots of people are blogging, I read yours because what you have to say interests me. The vehicle for your thoughts is incidental.

hmmm, I hadn't thought of it like that. YOu know, I think you are right. I love to write and I love being able to put my thoughts down, I never was able to keep a written journal. I 've been able to keep this journal for over a year. If this is a way to get my thoughts out of my head and onto "paper" then it is a good thing and the fact that a few are able to read it is good also. I appreciate that you are help me put things in perspective. Thank you.

but I still don't like it that Walmart has copied my favorite sandals.

The real trick is sifting what's good from the sheer amount of what's out there. I guess kind of like choosing real Crocs over a Walmart imitation?

A friend at church today told me they have Croc knockoffs at Payless shoes also. She was excited because she has three little girls who like to be stylish, but at $30 a pop she wasn't about to buy them real Crocs, so when she saw these for $12 apiece she went ahead and got them their kickin' around shoes. She was telling me in case my three girls like Crocs and wish they had some.
(My kids haven't even heard of Crocs. We frequent the thrift store when Grammy doesn't bring us things she has bought for the kids.)
I just thought I'd pop over here tonight and see if you had decided to keep blogging after all because I like to read your posts. ;o)

OK, Miss Amy Lou.....I thought about your post for awhile. I enjoy reading what my long lost friend is doing...plus you have introduced me to other blogs that I have also truly enjoyed & been inspired by. I love reading other peoples perspectives, and seeing how others handle family and faith. Anyway....don't they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery..
Love ya!
