Back in 2004, I wrote this post about Kindergarten Thoughts. I was still unsure about what to do about Butch and Sundance's education. They were 4 years old and such wonderful bright lovely boys. I just knew that the public schools though a good choice for some, was not the best choice for my boys especially Butch who is a kinesthetic learner.
Our first day of Kindergarten is chronicled here. Our first day of 1st grade here.
Today, Butch and Sundance began 2nd grade with a trip to the doctor's office for Hopalong and Mommy. We both have a sinus infection therefore two prescriptions for antibiotics, decongestants and some rest and we should both be on the mend.
I did manage, in spite of not feeling up to par, to get 3 hours of school in this afternoon as well as some math papers in the doctor's office. The boys and I set some goals for this school year. They are: 1. Write neatly. 2. Read better 3. Practice math 4. Cooperate.
Homeschool really fits our family. At the drug store today, I had a lady ask why they were not in school (Today was the first day of school for Texas children.) and I told her we educate at home. She gave me one of those looks that seems to say, "Aren't you crazy." or maybe she just had gas.
I will try to take a picture of our "new, remodeled" school room tomorrow and post more about what we are doing for Year 2 of www.Amblesideonline.com

Eugene H. Peterson: A Long Obedience in the Same Direction: Discipleship in an Instant Society
Life changing. A study of The Psalms of Ascent. IF there were more than 5 stars, this would get 10. (*****)
Blue Like Jazz
Excellent in the line, the male Anne Lamont. (*****)
Donna Tartt: A Secret History
Also for mature audiences but a wonderful mystery and look at human nature. (*****)
Khaled Hosseini: The Kite Runner
Another should read. I really had some preconceived ideas about immigrants and Middle Eastern people that have been changed. (*****)
Jennifer Weiner : Good in Bed
Mature audiences only but a good story. (****)
Larry Watson: Montana 1948
(****)
Cornelia Funke: Inkheart
(****)
Michael Crichton: Airframe
Have you ever gotten half way through a book and realized you'd read it before?
Jhumpa Lahiri: The Namesake
Loved this and am not sure why. It is a universal story about discontent and finding contentment. Descriptions are brilliant. I could smell the curry. (*****)
